Meditation

The simple definition is body relaxed and mind focused. There are lots of things that we can focus on (an object, a piece of music, your breath, a guided visualisation etc.). The purpose of focusing the mind is to quieten/still the mind. A still mind allows us to ask spirit questions and to hear the reponse.

In addition to improved spiritual connection meditation also brings physical benefits. There are lots of scientific studies which show that if you meditate you will have lower stress level, lower blood pressure, improved immune system, feel happier etc. ( see www.comfortpit.com/superhuman-benefits-of-meditation/

How can meditation do this? When the mind is active we are in Beta state operating at 13-30 cyles per second. When we meditate our mind is in a sensing and feeling state known as Alpha state operating at 7-13 cycles per second. This less active state allows our mind to recover/rebalance/de-stress which in turn helps our body to de-stress.

It is helpful to practice meditation in a group so you can share your experiences and learn from other people.
